Analysis of Advertising Images

Critical studies- Analysis of Advertising images

There is a title in the first image ‘The Uncle Sam Range’ and is placed on the lower part of the image and is in big white letters and is meant to be in the same perspective angle of the floor. The way that I can see this image is in black and white and is fairly small. It is the only image of this available to me as it was impossible to find on the web.
In the way that the image has been made, the style is a very old illustrative technique, with intricate details. It maybe recognisable as it may represent some patriotism, having a historical figure does this and people may relate this with other images.
The actual image was made in 1876 and has some significant relation to its historical context, as researched the historical figure is of Samuel Wilson who died in 1854, 22 years after this has been created. The main meaning across is strong and powerful and is to advertise this ‘Range’ (a cooker), so the historical figure is there to promote it.
In the image there are a few people present. There is Uncle Sam (White bearded historical figure), two younger child like characters, a maid, a woman in the distance and next to her is a big globe which has a face and limbs. These fictional characters, I believe are there to represent parts of the world, cleverly the image might be trying to say it is a global thing and is available all over the word.
In the second image the title ‘Daddy, what did you do in the great war?’ and again is located at the very bottom of the image, but this time is not part of it. I can see this image in its colour form, as it was available.
This image in relation to the previous image is in a style of a simplified illustration and is not really as sketchy as the previous and yet it still seems to have a strong impact on the way it is laid out. The expression on the mans face seems very stern as if there were something on his mind, the innocent children are unaware of this. So this is how it sends a strong message across. If it was not because of the piece of text at the bottom of the image it would not reflect this very well.
This was made in 1915 and is in relation to the potential audience of this image and is reflecting the horrors of war. It is intending to inform people, or the younger and less understanding of what the point and purpose of this ‘great war’ was for. It was something that was more of a nightmare than a reality and in this image really portrays something such as this in the fathers look that he gives and that he has lived this evil. His kids are just unaware.I believe both these images are clever in the way that they can show such emotion in some illustration, and they both seem to work really well.

DSLR Photography

As we were all instructed to go out and try to work out to use canon eos 10D's for the first time, i took every one on manual focus to get the best posible results and adjusting the aperture, iso and shutter speed manually is a long process for one shot, but it really does get amazing results.

I am really happy with these images, just testing the features out and actually doing it, i was pleased with.

The Very Begining Of Time

Well it is, the course has started and almost at the end of freshers week, I have been given lots of free crap, which usually consists of leaflets and the ocasional condom! All the crap usually advertises bars which gives you something off like 50p, but nice to sift through as there is usually something good out of it all.

The Brimham rocks trip was good yesturday, climbing and falling down rock faces (mostly falling!), I wish I had worn lighter footwear instead of my new-rocks, i scuffed them a lot, which was my fault, so anoyed about that :-( .

The thing which is on my mind mostly is the thing of the presentations on friday, im showing a video of what i partly made during the summer for the summer work. I just hope people arn't going to think im too much random. It is suposed to show the kind of things that i am into and love and show that I can be a bit random in my thinking.
